A Mystery to Unfold at Tregenna Castle Hotel

Tregenna Castle Hotel is welcoming a famous guest in August. The Miracle Theatre Company performs The Death of Sherlock Holmes in the estate grounds on Sunday 7th August.

This open air performance promises to be a memorable affair with the high energy theatre taking place in front of the stunning backdrop of St Ives Bay.

The life of the famous detective is at threat and the play sees Holmes investigating a trail of rare botanical specimens and paranormal happenings from Baker Street to the Swiss Alps via a séance. Tregenna’s 72 acre estate is the perfect setting for such a mysterious period thriller.

The play begins at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome. To make the most of the evening the audience is encouraged to bring chairs or rugs and warm clothes.

Tregenna’s Brasserie will be offering a variety of refreshments to suit all weathers including cold drinks and mugs of hot chocolate.

The theatre tickets for adults cost £12, for concessions £10 and for children £6. To book your tickets, please visit the Hall for Cornwall website www.hallforcornwall.co.uk or call Tregenna Castle Hotel on 01736 795254.

Tregenna SAND Castle Comps for St.Ives Surf Lifesaving

Local families, groups of friends and holiday makers are invited to get busy on the beach this month by entering the Tregenna Sand Castle Competitions.

The fun takes place on Sunday 31st July on Porthminster Beach with teams to compete in the “Beat The Tide” competition, whilst there will also be a “Best Castle” competition for smaller children.

Registrations for the team event will take place from 10.30am on the beach, with the competition starting shortly after depending on high tide times. Whilst entries into “Best Castle” will have all day to make their creations, until the judging by the Mayor and Tregenna Castle at 3pm.

The family day is being organized by Tregenna Castle Hotel and St Ives Surf Lifesaving Club to raise funds for the local charity.

Sheila Barker, General Manager for Tregenna Castle is excited about the event:

“We know so many local children through our ‘Castle Kids’ daycare that we thought it would be good for the event to benefit a local children’s charity. Many local families have children who enjoy St.Ives’ Surf Lifesaving Club and a day around the sea seemed a perfect fit for this charity.

“We are delighted that other businesses have been keen to support us with some brilliant prizes. As well as a Sunday Roast at Tregenna for the winning team of six, ‘I Should Coco’ have come up trumps with a fantastic trophy for the winning team in “Beat the Tide”. Fabulous Kids are donating a prize for “Best Castle”, along with three swimming vouchers for the runners up at our facilities at Tregenna Castle - so we’re all set for a fantastic day.”

David Bonar, Chair of St.Ives Surf Lifesaving Club is delighted that the club will benefit,

“What a great way to support the local community! Thanks to the money raised by local businesses such as Tregenna Castle, we can continue to offer excellent lifesaving tuition to our members.”

Teams of six are invited to build a giant sand castle to beat the tide. The last team left standing on their sand castle, untouched by the incoming tide, will be awarded a Sunday Roast for six at Tregenna Castle and the special trophy - a sand castle hand-crafted out of the finest chocolate by local artisan chocolatiers ‘I Should Coco’.

Everyone is welcome to take part in the giant sand castle race, whilst keen young builders aged under six years can enter their own competition in which they are invited to build their best sand castle for a chance of winning a special prize from Fabulous Kids, as well as three swimming vouchers at Tregenna Castle’s facilities for the runners up.

The cost to enter is £2.50 per person in either of the competitions, with six being the maximum you can have in your “Beat The Tide” team. All proceeds will go to the St.Ives Surf Lifesaving Club.

To join in the fun, please sign up at the Registration Desk on Porthminster Beach on the morning. Competitors are reminded to bring buckets and spades, although the beach takeaway also sells them.

There will be face-painting through the day with a BBQ run by Porthminster Takeaway.

Free Falconry Displays throughout Summer Holidays at Tregenna Castle

Free falconry displays are to take place every Wednesday throughout the summer holidays in the stunning grounds of Tregenna Castle Hotel. The first of the holiday series is to take place on 27th July and everyone is welcome.

From 6 – 7.30pm, owls, falcons and hawks will show off their breathtaking flight skills around the 72 acre estate in St Ives. A static display allows the audience to get close to these beautiful birds of prey and the birds will then be set free to demonstrate the differences between their free flying abilities.

Julian Clement of Countryside Hawking enjoys giving the demonstrations at Tregenna Castle:

“Tregenna offers a very private location so visitors can actually put the glove on and have the birds fly to them. It’s a great experience that everyone can enjoy.”

Tregenna’s estate provides a huge variety of woodland walks that are free to enjoy and include the ravine walk recently featured on Inside Out as well as sub tropical gardens.

The hotel’s General Manager, Sheila Barker, encourages the general public to visit:

“To see the birds of prey soar effortlessly above this beautiful estate with its coastal backdrop is timeless. The castle is historic and the nature trail itself was originally created in the 1920s and has recently been restored. The falconry displays really add to the estate’s sense of history and beauty.”

Entry to the falconry displays is free and the hotel facilities are available for non-residents. This includes the Brasserie where a well earned hot chocolate is the perfect treat following the magnificent displays.

For further information please call us on 01736 795254.

Last Month's Fantastic Feedback

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us this great feedback. We very much look forward to welcoming you all back soon!

“If you want to stay in a castle, this could be the one.”
By booking last minute the rate was good and included a full breakfast, which was good. Very spacious room, extremely helpful front desk staff and awesome views.

“Very friendly, lovely location, great facilities”
Online booking site showed one twin room left. Rather than rely on this, I telephoned to check and was told that the room was still available, but being above the kitchen, we might find it a little noisy. I am extremely impressed by and grateful for this honesty (thank you, Wendy). When I then began to hesitate and said that I would not be happy with that room, I was offered one of the 2 level apartments (Plen an Dinas) on the same terms. The apartment was absolutely brilliant.

We dined in both the Brasserie and the main restaurant - both were excellent with friendly efficient service. Indoor pool was lovely and warm and clean. Lots of other facilities available - check the website! A very pleasant couple of days!!

“Amazing!"
The hotel staff were brilliant and could not do enough to help us - my husband and son needed a hair cut prior to the wedding and the receptionist went out of her way to find us a salon. The staff was very friendly and made you feel very welcome. The hotel is very children friendly and the indoor pool is a saviour when the Cornwall drizzle sets in. There is a lovely walk into St Ives through the hotel grounds -there are reviews which say the way back is to steep, however we found that it was ok and managed it easily with 2 children.

We can't wait to go back to Tregenna Castle and thank all of the staff for such a fantastic and memorable stay.

"My wedding at Tregenna"
I was married at Tregenna Castle at the end of June and have nothing but compliments for the whole team. We were lucky enough to have a lovely sunny day but in true Cornish style, it was misty and rainy the day before and the morning of the wedding, and we didn't know if we would be able to have the ceremony outside as we would have liked. The registrar arrived 20 minutes before the ceremony and agreed that we could have it outside and within minutes the staff had organised 100 guests into the correct area.

The canapes, wedding breakfast and buffet were very nice, we asked for our roast beef to be cooked rare and it came out lovely and pink-which is not all that easy to get these days!

Myself, my mother and the bridesmaids all had our hair done by Sara Veal the hairdresser at Tregenna who was great and did us all in my room and managed to make 5 women with different styles very happy.

The grounds of the hotel were truly beautiful and so many people agreed that this was an amazing place to get married.

I am very grateful to Will, Alex and all of the Tregenna team for all their help and would recommend them to anyone wanting to get married in St Ives.
